I wanted to rec something a little less obvious than Loch Ness' story, so I'll also add Immunity by Terry Odell, where Duncan gets sick and stays that way.  It's a classic, pretty straightforward h/c story featuring Duncan and Dr. Anne.  She has two sequels to the story, as well, which continue the theme:  Recovery, and Recuperation.
